Bands like Skelbo are a reminder, certainly, that the tradition is in safe hands, but also that it is being constantly reinvented with skill and sensitivity.

The Living Tradition

Scottish Highland and Shetland traditions....Fiddle music and song....original compositions.....

Skelbo are :

Veronique Nelson - Fiddle / Viola

Iain Strachan - Guitar / Vocals

Erik Knussen - Double Bass

Eddie Scott - Spoons / Bodhran

Skelbo play fiddle music from the Scottish Highland and Shetland tradition combined with original songs.

The songs are contemporary, composed within the band, mixing the old with the new in a distinctive and forceful manner.

The musicians who make up Skelbo have come together for the recording of the C.D. Skelbo, but have played together for some time, the band lineup evolving from the various players who have performed alongside Iain Strachan and Veronique Nelson in recent years. With this C.D. Skelbo are established as a band with a distinctive identity and with the ability to play music which is old or new, dynamic or reflective.

Skelbo played at the wedding of Madonna and Guy Ritchie at Skibo Castle on 22nd December 2000 and also at the Christening of their son Rocco on the previous day. Skelbo are obviously not prepared to discuss the details of these events out of respect for the privacy of Madonna and Guy Ritchie, but the band members were honoured and delighted to be involved in such special events.
